Dar es Salaam. A Tanzanian national, Ms Lucy Odiwa, has emerged the winner of the women micro-entrepreneurship competition, which aims at helping achieve Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs).
The competition, which carried the name SDG and Her Competition, was co-hosted by the World Bank Group, the Wharton School Zicklin Centre, UNDP and UN Women on Wednesday in Washington DC in the US.
Her micro-enterprise, Women Choice Industries, seeks to empower women and girls in Tanzania by promoting safer Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM), sharing information, products and related services.
According to the media statement released by the WB, the winner outshined over 1,200 other entries from 88 countries.
Women Choice Industries produces reusable sanitary pads, post-partum maternity pads, child and adult diapers.
Lack of the MHM products has been preventing women and girls from low income families to engage in economic activities and attend schools regularly respectively.
